SOMERBY PARK LEADS WAY FOR MAJOR INVESTMENT IN GAINSBOROUGH
Major new housing plans for Gainsborough a step closer
Work is nearing completion on Somerby Park, the final phase of the development at Heapham Road Industrial Estate to the south east of Gainsborough. This will provide 30 acres of high quality serviced employment land, serviced plots starting from half an acre (0.2 hectare) upwards are now available.
Stephen Bradford of joint agents Hodgson Elkington commented:
“This is a great site with exciting possibilities for a variety of uses, including trade and roadside, and we are already fielding enquiries from a number of sources.”
The “Gainsborough Regeneration” branded development has been led by landowner Thonock and Somerby Estates, working alongside West Lindsey District Council. It is one of the major initiatives in the regeneration of Gainsborough as envisaged in the “Gainsborough Regained” Masterplan commissioned by West Lindsey District Council, Lincolnshire County Council and Lincolnshire Enterprise and launched in 2007.
Following the award of Growth Point status to the Town, Thonock and Somerby Estates, the historic Gainsborough landowner, is dealing with the challenge of realising the vision and is working in close partnership with the District and County Councils, together with partner organisations.
With the completion of Somerby Park, Thonock & Somerby Estates is concentrating its attention on the proposals for the Southern Neighbourhood, which would be the first phase of plans to build three new sustainable neighbourhoods for Gainsborough.
Tom Aylmer from Thonock & Somerby Estates commented:
“Somerby Park proves that the infrastructure and investment required to support growth in Gainsborough can be delivered. We are now working with project partners to develop sustainable new neighbourhoods for our town”.
“The vision for the Southern Neighbourhood is to create a distinctive place which will be linked to Gainsborough, enhancing the presence of the Town as a gateway to Lincolnshire.
This will require a quality, design-led approach that will contribute to the regeneration of the Town, bringing employment, education, public open space and affordable housing”
Proposals for the first phase, the Southern Neighbourhood extension, will be the subject of a public consultation later this summer.
The proposed site is well placed to develop excellent links and connectivity with the Town as it is situated to the south of Foxby Lane, close to a major existing supermarket, adjacent to the employment area of Heapham Road Industrial Estate and within walking distance of Lea Road Railway Station.
